NITHYA KALYANA PERUMAL TEMPLE, THIRUVIDANTHAI ECR








            Nithya Kalyana Perumal Temple, Thiruvidanthai.  This  temple is located on ECR on the  way to Mahabalipuram 25 kms from Madras 5 kms from Muttukadu.  It is one of the 108 Divya Desam and Thirumangai Azwar in 8th century has written  Pasurams  about the deities.  The  Legend of the temple as told by the  Bhattars is that Maha Vishnu in Varaha Avataram married the 360 daughters of Kalava  Maharishi and revealed himself to the  sage.  Hence,  marriage performed to the  deity everyday.  Moolavar Varahar  is in standing pose one legged having  Akilavalli Thayar on left thigh. Thayar  Komavalli  has separate shrine on the  North side. There is a beautiful  16 pillared  Vijayanagar  Era  Mandapam before the  main entrance which is  also a flat roofed.  As per information given by ASI in the  temple it  has inscription from  10th to 16th century  including  one of Rashtrakuta king Krishna III and Mudalam  Raja Rajan from 8th to 29th year of his rule. A merchant from Mylapore has installed Thayar statue here. Raja Raja I in his 17th year  rule gave right to  12 fishermen families to celebrate his Avani  Sadayam  Birthday in the  Temple. Those whose  marriages are not  fixed worship the God here by giving  two Malais for Pooja and take one back home after doing nine rounds of  the  Temple. When the  marriage get  fixed  they bring back the  old malai as a thanksgiving to the Lord. The  temple has beautiful  granite Mandapams of later Chola and Vijayanagar Era.  Utsavar is Ranganatha Perumal called  Azhagiya Manavalan.  The temple is under control off Archaeological Survey of India with  active worship and  festivals. It follows  Thengalai  Sampradayam.
