KODANDARAMASWAMY TEMPLE, WEST MAMBALAM , MADRAS
Kodandaramar Temple, West Mambalam. This 200 year old temple is near Madley subway. As per the Legend/ Sthala puranam the place was originally called Mabilashetram and the presiding deity of Pattabhiramar was in Pattabhisheka Kolam with Seetha, Lakshman and Hanuman for many years. Since the deity resembled Bhadrachala Ramar it was called Dakshina Bhadrachalam. It was in the year 1926 that Vangayala Kuppiah Chetty(of Kuppiah Chetty Street fame ) a rich man who constructed the temple in the present form out of his funds and from the funds collected from public. The Mahasamprokshanam was held in 1927 and Kodandaramar with Bharatha, Lakshmana, Shatrukan along with Seetha and Hanuman was consecrated. Thayar here is called Aranganayaki and Sanjeevi Parvatha Hanuman has a separate Sannidhi facing Kodandaramar. In the Mahamandapam outside the sanctum there are separate shrines for Aranganathar, Kulasekara Azhwar, Udayavar and Manavala Mamuni. There is an inscription dated 28th Jan 1909 mentioning about the Kainkaryam made by Thummalapenta Narayana Chetty and his wife for the construction of Temple tank Hanumath Theertham and Madapalli Well Lakshmi Theertham. The temple is kept neat and clean.
