Sundararaja Perumal Temple, Thirumanam











Sundararaja Perumal Temple, Thirumanam. This temple is situated in Thirumanam Village in Tiruvalluvar district.  The temple was built in 13th century by Pandya king Jatavarma Sundara Pandian.  It was later developedby Vijayanagara and Nayaka kings. The Rajagopuram is a five tiered structure facing East.  The Dwajasthambam, Balipeedam and Garudalwar Sannidhi inside faces the sanctum sanctorum.  Inside the sanctum the Utsavamoorthy and Sudarsana Chakram are found. 
This place is also called Siddar Kadu since in the good olden days many Siddars lived here.  It is a  Nakshatra temple for those with Swathi Star.  The presiding deity is Sundararaja Perumal with Sundaravalli Thayar. Garuda Sevai is celebrated on Ratha Sapthami day. It is believed that Thirumazhisai Alwar did thapas in this temple.In Andal Sannidhi there  is a statue of  Garuda Kodi Siddar and  people do Pooja to him for getting rid of 
eye problem. The sthala viruksham is Nellimaram. The temple is situated on the banks of Coovam river and its maintenance is not that good. There is a old inscription outside the walls of the temple. It is 4 km fromPattabhiram railway station and can be reached by Auto.  It is open from 8 am to 10am and from 5.30 pm to 7.00pm.
