ADIKESAVA PERUMAL TEMPLE, CHINTADRIPET, MADRAS




        Adikesava  Perumal Temple, Chintadripet. It is situated in Arunachalam Street a main thoroughfare linking Egmore with Mount Road.  This temple was built in 1740 by Dubash Angappa Naicken.  Chintadripet was developed as a weavers village in 1734 by East India Company on land acquired  from  Sunkumara Chetty since he fell out of favour of Governor George Morton Pitt.The Village was inhabited by Weavers, Spinners, Washers and Dyers along with Brahmins for attending the temple. The main deity is Adikesava Perumal with his consorts Sreedevi and Boodevi in standing posture. Thayar is Adilakshmi housed in a separate shrine. There are separate shrines for Andal, Anjaneyar, Chakrathazwar and Ramanujar. The temple has a common wall and tank with its twin temple Adipureeshwarar.  The Oonjal mandapam of the temple is architechturally beautiful.  It can be reached easily from Egmore Railway station.
